“5S” is well recognised manufacturing standard for ensuring that the production system conforms to some generally acceptable “best practises” in maintaining the orderly look of the factory environment and is safe and ergonomically capable of facilitating the lean production philosophy. “Place for everything and everything in place” is the best summary of what the “5S” stands for. “5S” can equally be implemented in non-production environments, like for example – the “clean desk policy” in offices.
