FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) is an engineering risk management tool and is aimed in understanding how a product can fail and what impact it may have on the customer. PFMEA relates to defining why “manufacturing functions” fail, what causes that and how this can be prevented. The “manufacturing function” is any value adding activity during the manufacturing process. In that context, any component supplier shall develop a component PFMEA, and the final assembler (customer) shall develop the final product assembly PFMEA.

- Understand the difference and the synergy between System, Design and the Process FMEAs. Become familiar with the FMEA “pyramidal model”.
- Understand the boundary diagram and the “P” diagram concepts.
